Hyper Island - 2008

Hyper Island 2008
Hyper Island is a unique hypermedia school / education program in Europe. The two-year university course in Sweden (based in Karlskrona or Stockholm) is focused on on-line related technologies, products, services and businesses. Since more than 12 years Hyper Island educated and 'shaped' high potentials in the fields of art direction and interactive design. The Hyper Island students get prepared to face the modern digital challenge and at the end of the course they are given the possibility to work as interns in various design studios throughout the continent and beyond it.

The results of this state-funded course are simply stunning. Nowadays you will find former Hyper Island graduates working as art directors and interactive designers in top-notch studios all over the world or as highly decorated freelancers. With no doubt Hyper Island can be considered as something like the Harvard of Hypermedia in Europe.
Each year, a website is released by students graduating before they go out for their internships all over the world. You will remember the Crew1 ... Crew10, Crew11 and Crew12 websites: outstanding outcomes of creative hotshots working together as teams of glory.

This year the game has changed. There is no Crew13 in 2008, maybe because they are superstitious or - more serious though - because the program was splitted up. Perpetrating the tradition of the yearly websites of previous classes the 2009 graduates will raise the bar even higher and launch two websites in February 2008. One for the Digital Media Class in Karlskrona and another one for Digital Media Class in Stockholm.

  1. I bet some ‘old’ art directors envy those students. What a fantastic program. I think it’s not really a surprise that this is happening in Sweden.
